Ships
Ships are individually simulated and move within and between systems in real-time, performing various functions like surveying, freight, and patrolling. Each has crew, fuel, ammunition and so on that regularly need to be topped up at stations. Ships don’t have unlimited range and will need an infrastructure network to support them.
There’s an option to have ships move around using Newtonian physics or using more traditional ocean-like movement.
